Resilient, classic, and known for toughness and long roof life
This is the classic long-life roof, and within this sub-type there are many varieties as well. While it can be difficult if not impossible for the elements to damage a metal roof, one thing you need to consider is if people need to walk on the roof, as some are made more robustly and some are thinner to be more cost effective, such as may be used on porch overhangs or carports. A robust metal roof however can last 4 or 5 decades with no problem and little to no maintenance concern. You can even change the color with a new roof coating if you like, as 50 years is a pretty long time!
SHOULD I GET A METAL ROOF?
If you want an extremely durable roof that you might never have to think about, and you have the extra coin, then sure why not. One of the great advantages is the this type can reflect heat instead of absorbing it, reducing the cost of heating by as much as 20%-30%. Considering that cooling leakage through a hot roof is a well-known issue in housing, that’s an incredible cost savings over the life of the roof. If you also consider that inflation will increase the cost of shorter-life roofing materials, then the added cost of a metal roof is even further mitigated. If you have the money, or simply don’t want to think about re-roofing the family estate in the future, then either this type, or modern composites might be an incredible choice. If you want long life span coupled with a more custom appearance, composite roofing is another option.
